A blistering unbeaten half century by Luis Reece helped Chittagong to register a 45-run victory over Rajshahi Kings in the 40th match of AKS Bangladesh Premier League T20 held on Tuesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
With this win bottom-ranked Chittagong secured seven points from 12 matches while Rajshahi Kings placed in sixth position with their previous credit of eight points playing the same number of outings.
Chasing a winning target of 195-run set by Chittagong, Rajshahi suffered early batting slump and eventually they were restricted at 149 for 9 in 20 overs.
The highlight of Rajshahi’s innings was Samit Patel’s breezy half century. The right-hander English batsman smashed 26-ball off 62 runs laced with six boundaries and five over boundaries before he fell to Luke Reece.
Wickets fall in regular intervals and the rests Rajshahi batsmen could not fight back in the match in the face of tight bowling display by the Chittagong bowlers.
Sikandar Raza, after shine with bat, finished his spell with an impressive figure of 4 for 14 from 4 overs. He was well supported by Sunzamul Islam who bagged 2 for 14 from 4 overs.
Luis Reece of Chittagong was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.
Earlier, opener Luis Reece blasted unbeaten 56-ball off 80 as Chittagong Vikings amassed a massive total of 194 for 2 from their allotted 20 overs, after they were forced to bat first by Rajshahi Kings.
Luis smashed four fours and three sixes and during the process he first shared a solid 69-run opening stand with his skipper Luke Ronchi (30-ball off 42) and again inseparable 86-run with Sikandar Raza (20-ball off 42 n.o) for the second wicket stand to steer Chittagong to set a challenging target in front of Rajshahi.
Mehedy Hasan bagged two wickets giving away 18 runs.
